Who says the golden years can’t be carnal and sensual?

Iris Chacón, whose curves ruled the Latin world when she was “La Vedette de América” (“America’s Showgirl”) in the 1980s, was honored by the Institute for the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Elderly at its 35th annual gala at the Hilton last Friday.

The 59-year-old Chacón — whose TV ads for car coolant, showcasing her well-endowed derriere in a revealing leotard, are Puerto Rican pop-culture classics — was honored with a Nuestro Orgullo award along with Mexican actor Fernando Allende.

“The truth is she still looks despampanente [stunning],” said Luis Miranda, managing partner of MirRam Group, who attended the event. “Apoteósica [Tremendous].”

Wearing a black gown highlighting a generous cleavage and abundant long, red hair, Chacón spoke and later sang for Friday’s 350 guests, who included Mayor Bloomberg and city Controller William Thompson.

Chacón said she was honored with the recognition from the nonprofit serving Latino seniors, particularly because she was brought up by her grandmother, said the institute’s Angel Santini.

And she revealed the once-unthinkable: that she is about to become a grandmother herself. Her only daughter, Katiria, is expecting her first child.
Chacón’s legendary shake-that-booty dances were momentarily relived in the 2007 film “El Cantante” when Jennifer López let it loose, Chacón style, in front of the TV in an effort to take her on-screen (and off-screen) husband, Marc Anthony’s, eyes off Chacón’s show.

Chacón wrapped up the night with a rendition of her hit “Si Tu Boquita Fuera,” which starts, “If your little mouth was made of chocolate, I would spend all my time whipping it and whipping it ...” — except that in Spanish, it rhymes.

Legendary Iris Chacón Honored

Iris Chacón, the original curvy-in-all-the-right-places, Puerto Rican bombshell, was recently honored with a Nuestro Orgullo award by The Institute for the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Elderly at its 35th annual gala in NYC, the NY Daily News reports.

Chacón, 59, rose to fame in the ’80s as the star of the burlesque-style T.V. show, La Vedette de América (“America’s Showgirl”). Fans will never forget her classic TV ads for car coolant, showcasing her well-endowed derriere in a revealing leotard.

“The truth is she still looks despampanente [stunning],” managing partner of MirRam Group Luis Miranda told the NY Daily News. “Apoteósica [Tremendous].”

The aging celebrity still highlights her assets when getting dressed. She wore a cleavage-revealing black gown to the event, and let her long red locks flow wildly. She took the stage to speak, and later sang for 350 guests, including NYC Mayor Bloomberg.

Chacón said she was honored by the recognition from the nonprofit serving Latino seniors, particularly because she was brought up by her grandmother, said the institute’s Angel Santini.

She ended the evening with a performance of her hit “Si Tu Boquita Fuera,” which starts, “If your little mouth was made of chocolate, I would spend all my time whipping it and whipping it ...” Don't hurt 'em, Iris!

World's oldest person turns 115

Last Updated: Monday, August 21, 2006 | 11:47 PM ET

The world's oldest person celebrated his 115th birthday Monday in Puerto Rico, attributing his longevity to healthy eating and avoiding alcohol.

Emiliano Mercado del Toro was feted at an outdoor party in the northwestern town of Isabela, where he was serenaded by his favourite singer, Iris Chacon.

"I never damaged my body with liquor," said Mercado, who was declared the world's oldest last year by the Guinness Book of Records.

An ambulance carried the wheelchair-bound man to an outdoor plaza where family, friends and the mayor gathered. Mercado has difficulty hearing and permanently lost his sight four years ago.

Mercado was a boy when the United States seized Puerto Rico from Spain in 1898. He trained in the U.S. Army in 1918, but the First World War ended before he saw battle.

As a young man, Mercado said, he worked for 50 cents US a day driving animals loaded with sugar cane to processing centres.

Mercado did have one vice in his life, but he kicked a 76-year smoking habit when he was 90.

According to Guinness, the oldest fully authenticated age belonged to Jeanne-Louise Calment of France. She lived 122 years and 164 days before dying in a nursing home in 1997.
